Could YOUR personal care products cause birth defects?

Finding cosmetics and personal care products that are safe to use while pregnant or nursing and don’t contain any chemicals linked to cancer or birth defects is no easy task these days. Throughout much of the history of the beauty industry unsuspecting women just like you have often discovered the ill effects of daily exposure to undisclosed  chemical ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products the hard way. So if you’re expecting a new edition to your family soon or you’re trying to conceive, you have every right to be concerned.

Fortunately, now there’s a much easier way for moms and moms-to-be to protect themselves and their children from being exposed to these suspected carcinogens and birth-defect-causing chemicals. The Environmental Working Group’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and SkinDeep® Database (now also available in a mobile app) makes it easier than ever to check the ingredients listed on your personal care products for any known or suspected hazards.

Of course, cosmetics manufacturers are notorious for not disclosing 100% of the ingredients in their products and finding legal protection from doing so in U.S. trade secret laws, so while the database is certainly a useful tool for protecting yourself and your children, the BEST choice you can make when shopping for personal care products while pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive is to find a Compact for Safe Cosmetics (CSC) signer, preferably one that has been awarded Champion Status.

Protect yourself and your growing family with a CSC Champion

A CSC Champion company is one that is in 100% full compliance with European Union regulations on cosmetic ingredients, which are much stricter than current U.S. laws and prohibit the use of more than 1,000 chemicals. The U.S.-based, self-regulating, manufacturer-funded Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) panel on the other hand only prohibits 11 chemicals. Companies wishing to maintain their CSC Champion status must recertify every year by providing documentation to the EWG confirming that they do not use any chemicals listed on the Compact’s “Red List.”

Castle Baths is one of only 322 companies to be awarded champion status and has recently recertified. When you shop with Castle Baths, you can be 100% certain you are not slathering your hair and skin with heavy metals, genetically modified ingredients, sulfates, parabens, formaldehyde, petroleum or anything else “in the red.” We even special order aluminum bottles and glass jars, and store our products in temperature-controlled rooms so there’s no chance of your products being contaminated by plasticizing chemicals like phthalates as they likely would be if stored in a plastic bottle in a hot warehouse.

We sincerely want to protect you from becoming the next statistic on the next class-action lawsuit like you see advertised on TV with some lawyer shouting, “Have you used XYZ product? You may be entitled to compensation.”

We think you’re entitled to a lot more than that.
