Finding Certified Organic Palm Oil as a Natural Ingredient
Certified Organic Palm Oil is one of the more common natural ingredients that you will find in many natural cosmetic and skin care products. There are several reasons why palm oil is one of your better choices for a skin care product –the most important reason being that it is 100% natural.
When you are looking for any form of skin treatment or even a cosmetic, you have to make a decision as to whether you want it to be completely natural or contain some synthetics. This is not to infer that all so-called natural products are completely free of synthetic substances, since many contain preservatives, surfactants and other ingredients that are needed to make the product last and to enable it to be provided in a form that can easily be applied to your skin.
There has been a lot written about surfactants, but they are needed to make an emulsion between oils and water, so that an oil can be easily smoothed on your skin, and the excess removed without making your skin oily. Most creams are emulsions, and the emulsifiers used to attain that are generally (but not always) synthetic.
An example of a natural emulsifier is lecithin, obtained from soya, so if you see that on the label, you will know it is a natural product. Of course, not all natural products are good for you: the majority of the most virulent poisons are natural, as are fats and greases in your diet.
However, where skin care is concerned you should be looking for antioxidants, such as Vitamins A, C and E, and unsaturated fatty acids such as linolenic and oleic acids. Another is beta carotene, a powerful antioxidant that kills off the free radicals that can lead to premature aging by destroying your body cells, including those of your skin.
Natural palm oil is red, the same color a beta carotene, but boiling destroys it and it turns basically colorless. Red palm oil is best for you, but can be difficult to find, in which case the boiled type still offers benefits for your skin.
The vitamin E content of palm is so high that studies in Malaysia have led researchers to believe it to be a powerful treatment for skin conditions such as eczema, acne and dermatitis. Vitamin E is another powerful antioxidant, and used in many skin preparations for its properties of destroying free radicals generated by agents such as the ultra violet radiation in sunlight, pesticides, traffic fumes and cigarette smoke.
Apart from this positive biochemical effect on your skin, Palm oil is also moisturizing and promotes smoother skin, as many natural skin care products do.
When have problems with your skin, whether it is dry or chapped skin caused by environmental conditions or acne caused by the natural emission of excessive skin oils, look towards natural products such as palm oil to help relieve your condition. You skin will react to these more positively than to the harsher synthetic chemicals that many people use.
