Organic Rose Hydrosol – Nature’s Natural Cleanser

What is a hydrosol?

rose hydrosolHydrosols are colloidal suspensions in water, and rose hydrosol is a suspension of tiny particles of rose oil in water, obtained by steam distillation of rose plants. The hydrosol used for skin care is actually the water left after the distillate has had the essential oil removed. Rose hydrosol is also referred to as rose water.

The way the distillation process works is to separate compounds by virtue of the temperature at which they evaporate, and recondense. Those compounds that vaporize at higher temperatures are left behind in the water, including many very beneficial substances such as flavanoids and other phytochemicals and antioxidants that either do not evaporate at all, or do so at a temperature higher than the boiling point of water.

Among these are natural mild acids with a pH of 5-6, or just below neutrality, and which are very useful in the preparation of facial toners. Such toners can possess mild antibacterial properties, and offer a gentle treatment for acne skin where it can help top regulate sebum production. It is stimulating and can enervate the skin to leave you feeling clean and fresh. Rose hydrosol is one of the most beneficial hydrosols you can use for facial skin care.
