Spa points and other customer loyalty rewards throughout the years

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

2015 marks Castle Baths’ 10th anniversary! Check out these popular customer loyalty incentives we’ve offered throughout the years.

grey blue bow photo made from silkThere are generally two types of shopping experiences that you’ll remember: the really good ones, where you felt like everyone you talked to was genuinely interested in helping you find exactly what you needed even when you weren’t sure what your needs were, and the really bad experiences, where everyone made you feel pressured to buy yet none of them seemed to know very much about what they were selling.

You’ve probably experienced the latter more times than you’d care to admit, and so have we, which is why in 2005 when Castle Baths first opened its (virtual) doors, we set out to provide our customers not only with great natural spa and bath products, but also a great online shopping experience – complete with a knowledgeable, non-pushy sales staff ready to help you find solutions to all your skin care needs, and special offers and incentives to reward customer loyalty.

If you’ve shopped with Castle Baths before, then you already know what we’re talking about. If you haven’t, here are some of the most popular customer loyalty rewards we’ve offered over the years, as rated by our customers:

Spa Points – they work like real dollars!

spa points

The easiest way to explain our spa points program to someone new to Castle Baths is that it works like many of the popular credit cards offered today, where you can earn reward points on every purchase you make. We offer a competitive 5% cash back on every order to our registered customers.

Your spa points will never expire so you can collect as many as you wish and use them whenever you wish – collect enough and you can even earn yourself a free spa gift basket!

Free U.S. shipping and competitive international shipping rates

Castle Baths offers free shipping on all orders over $69.00, and competitive international shipping rates through USPS priority air mail. We can ship our luxurious spa and bath products, pet grooming supplies, and spa gift baskets all over the world, and to any location (including hospitals, apartments, hotels, and more!)

Our Refer-a-Friend Program

Free Samples

In a cosmetological clinicDespite some attempts to abuse the system over the years we remain committed to offering free samples of our products to anyone interested.  Our samples offer just enough of each product to test how each smells and feels, and to make sure you aren’t allergic to any of its ingredients (a very rare possibility since all of our ingredients are natural, but one we must consider for the sake of our customers’ safety.)

Earn discounts on pet grooming supplies, spa products, and more by referring your friends

cats and dogs

Castle Baths’ refer-a-friend program is well-suited to dog and cat breeders, and others too!

Carla the dog breeder (name changed) gives out a sample Anna Designer Pet Breeder Kit, which includes a $5 Castle Baths coupon, with every one of her new puppies. The people who buy from her almost always ask her what she uses to feed and groom her puppies because they know her reputation as an award-winning breeder, and want to ensure that they continue the exact same care regimen she uses.

This action, along with providing all the required veterinary records for each of her puppies every time she makes a sale, and her already stellar reputation in the dog breeder community would be more than enough to convince anyone that she is a good, ethical breeder – someone who cares more about the health and safety of her puppies even after they leave her care than she does about any profits she might make from each sale. But, Carla doesn’t stop there.

Once her buyers leave, she logs onto her computer and inputs her buyers’ e-mail addresses into the Refer-a-Friend form on Castle Baths’ website so they’ll know where to go to buy more Anna Designer Pet grooming supplies. By using Castle Baths’ refer-a-friend feature, she ensures that her buyers will have yet another discount waiting for them when they get home, and, once they buy their first refill, she’ll get a discount too.

It’s a win-win situation, and one that’s not exclusive to dog and cat breeders.

Castle Baths’ refer-a-friend feature makes it easy for anyone to earn discounts by referring friends and family, whether they buy pet grooming products, spa products, or a gift basket for someone else.

All you need in order to start earning discounts by referring your friends and family through our refer-a-friend program is:

  1. A Castle Baths customer account (creating one is easy)
  2. A list of your friends’ and family’s e-mail addresses

phoneThat’s it! You’re all done, and once the people you referred places an order, you’ll get your discount.

How to select the best moisturizer for your dry skin

Friday, August 29th, 2014

body moisturizersThere are plenty of face and body moisturizers that claim to be the best solution for keeping your skin hydrated. So how do you choose the correct one? This how-to guide will walk you through the steps you should take when evaluating whether a moisturizer is right for your specific skin needs.

massage oilsKnow the cause of your dry skin

Dry skin can have many different causes. Knowing the cause of your dry skin is the first step in choosing the right moisturizer for your face and body. Dry skin and dehydrated skin, while often treated as a single skin type, actually have two different causes. Dry skin refers to skin that lacks the ability to produce sufficient natural oil; dehydrated skin refers to skin that lacks sufficient water.

Chronically dry skin tends to be either genetic or the a side effect of mature/aged skin. If your skin cannot retain sufficient natural oil to keep itself hydrated, you’re going to want to use an oil-based moisturizer such as a body butter, massage oil, or body oil.

Dehydrated skin tends to be temporary, and can occur as a result of exposure to cold temperatures (winter dry skin), exposure to warm temperatures (heated indoor air, sunlight, etc.) or the use of certain chemicals with skin-drying effects such as alcohol. If you have dehydrated skin, you’re probably better off with a water-based moisturizer like a body mist, or a moisturizer that is both water-based and oil-based like a body lotion mist or hand and body lotion.

Consider your environment

woman in parkIf you’re planning on spending time outdoors, it’s a good idea to use a moisturizer that will keep your skin hydrated all day, so you don’t have to constantly re-apply. It’s also a good idea to look for a moisturizer with mild UV protective properties like this hazelnut oil moisturizer.

If you’re in or plan to be in a humid environment, using a body mist or other moisturizer made with natural glycerin will help your skin absorb the moisture surrounding you and keep itself hydrated. This includes your bathroom after bathing or showering.

body oilsConsider the existing damage to your skin

If you’ve already sustained some type of damage to your skin like a sunburn, or if you suffer from skin conditions like rosacea or psoriasis, you should take these conditions into account when choosing a moisturizer. Pure natural glycerin, aloe vera juice, and aloe body butter are all excellent soothing moisturizers for sunburned skin.

Emu Oil and Evening Primrose Oil are both great skin care ingredients to look for if you have eczema, psoriasis, or any other aches and pains, as both contain natural pain relieving nutrients.

Natural vs. Synthetic Spa and Bath Products

Thursday, August 14th, 2014

about castle baths

Learn all about Castle Baths’ efforts to spread the word on the benefits of natural spa products.

There are two ways you can shop for spa and bath products. You can go to the nearest store and purchase whichever synthetically formulated products happen to be on sale, or you can try to find a retailer who deals in natural spa and bath products. Going to the nearest store and purchasing whatever happens to be on sale sounds easy enough, so why are so many people just like you opting to shop for natural alternatives these days?

For long-time Castle Baths customer Janet, it was the unpredictability of synthetic products that led her to make the switch.

A rich, creamy lather might sound appealing, but low-lather products are actually much better for your skin. The chemicals used to create the suds can be quite irritating and drying.

A rich, creamy lather might sound appealing, but low-lather products are actually much better for your skin. The chemicals used to create the suds can be quite irritating and drying.

“The face cream that I used for about 35 years from [a company] had a formula change, the raw materials had changed completely and within 1 week I got the worst case of severe allergic eczema on my face and neck. It burned so badly and peeled even worse so I was desperate to try to find a new face cream but I had no luck. I tried expensive ones from the mall and cheaper, natural ones from the health food stores and they all just made it burn and peel worse. My skin was so dry but if I put any moisturizers on, it just got worse. Until I found the Avocado [Face] Cream from Castle Baths… With no chemicals or alcohol and very few ingredients my skin started healing quickly and stopped burning and peeling almost instantly, the PH seemed perfect and my skin which now looks more moist, fresh and younger says THANK YOU CASTLE BATHS!”  – Janet

Whatever the reason you decide to switch to natural spa and bath products by Castle Baths, chances are once you do, you’ll never want to go back to using synthetics.

Natural, handmade luxury at a comfortable price

We once asked our office staff (many of whom are also loyal Castle Baths customers) if they could summarize what makes Castle Baths stand out in one sentence or phrase. The result we came up with together was, natural, handmade luxury at a comfortable price. We ended up using it as an alternate tag line next to our “Nourish. Indulge. Seduce.”™ because it so accurately describes how we:

  • handmade castle bathsUse only natural, certified organic, and wild-crafted ingredients to formulate our spa and bath products, to include luxury skin care ingredients like Dead Sea Mud and Dead Sea Salt.
  • Make all of our products by hand and hand-package them with the utmost care.
  • Use eco-friendly, cruelty-free business practices.
  • And deliver real aromatherapy benefits by using pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils.

Essential Oils vs Fragrance Oils: What’s the Difference?

Thursday, July 10th, 2014

essential oilsaromatherapy scents

Allergies to synthetic fragrances are common – try products scented in essential oils instead

Do the scented spa products you see in big box stores give you headaches or make you feel nauseous? Are you hesitant to try lotions and bath salts with aromatherapy benefits because you worry that their scents will be overpowering? Have you become convinced that you’re allergic to scents and can only use unscented products?

If the only spa products you’ve tried have come from large retail chain stores, you may not be as allergic to scented spa products as you think you are. Many of the scented products you see lining the shelves of these stores have been scented with artificially created fragrance oils, which have been concocted from a mix of chemicals. Cosmetics manufacturers are not legally required to disclose all the ingredients they use to manufacture their fragrances, and as a result, many of the chemicals they use can be quite harsh and irritating to your skin and your nose.

The lotions, bath salts, soaps, and oils you’ll find online at Castle Baths, however, are scented in pure, natural essential oils, not synthetic fragrance oils. As such, they are much less likely to cause allergic reactions, and deliver real aromatherapy benefits.

Fragrance Oils vs. Essential Oils: Aromatherapy Benefits

essential oil - geranium rose

Fragrance oils are exactly that, fragrances; they just smell nice (or not so nice as the case may be.) Essential Oils, on the other hand, have real aromatherapy benefits. Spa products scented in essential oils retain the aromatherapy benefits of the herbs and flowers from which the oils were extracted. You can find multiple scientific studies on the effectiveness of aromatherapy here.

You can learn more about the essential oils we use and the aromatherapy benefits of the scents we’ve created by blending various essential oils together here.

A few of the essential oils we use do have allergy warnings, such as those derived from ragweed or pine. You can find disclosures regarding potential allergic reactions to such oils in the additional information tab on our product pages.

So, if you’re ready to end your exile from the world of scented spa products, come check out our aromatherapy essential oil blends!

Skin Care Advice for June Brides

The benefits of bath scrubs when getting ready for a June wedding

bath scrub for wedding

June is one of the most popular months for weddings, and it’s no secret why. Flowers are in full bloom and the weather finally feels like summer, but it still isn’t overwhelmingly hot outside. It’s the ideal time of year to wed if you want a beach wedding, an outdoor service in a local flower garden, and/or if you’ve picked out gorgeous sleeveless dresses for yourself and your bridesmaids.

But if everything is to go swimmingly on your big day this summer, you’ll need to prepare, and no, we’re not talking about going to the wedding rehearsal or making sure the caterer decorates the cake exactly the way you want it. We’re talking about skin care.

Let’s face it, having an outdoor wedding during the summer carries a certain amount of risk for those whose skin is unprepared. You could end up with unsightly tan lines from all that time in the sun, or worse yet, your skin might burn and peel. Or perhaps you have cellulite deposits that you’re afraid will show. Fortunately, there’s a simple skin care technique you can use during the weeks before the big day to minimize the risk of any of these events happening. It’s called exfoliation.

If you’re getting married this June, or really any time this summer, or one of your friends or relatives is getting married and you’re one of her bridesmaids, you’ll definitely want to exfoliate your skin regularly during the weeks beforehand. Here’s why:

Exfoliation helps slough off dead skin cells that are lingering on your skin’s surface, and polish your skin so that it’s silky smooth. Dead skin cells, if left to linger, can cause your skin to have an overall dull appearance. They can get into your pores and clog them, resulting in visibly enlarged pores and the potential for an acne breakout. They can also cause your skin to flake and peel when exposed to sunlight (which it will be if you’re going to an outdoor wedding.)

One of the best ways to exfoliate is to use a bath scrub (also sometimes called a body scrub or body polish.) Bath scrubs are often made with salt or sugar to create a slightly textured solution that you can apply to your entire body using your hands, an exfoliation glove, or a body brush.

So many bath scrubs, so little time….

Tbath scrub - coffee cocoahere are many types of bath scrubs from which to choose, including some you can make yourself. But if you or your friend is getting married this June, there’s not a lot of time to experiment. If you want a bath scrub that can do it all just in time for the big day, we recommend this Coffee Cocoa Face and Body Scrub.

The Coffee Cocoa Face and Body Scrub has several advantages over other scrubs, perhaps the most obvious being that you can use it on your whole body, to include your face. It is formulated with natural brown sugar and coffee grounds to provide a gentle yet still textured feel when applied to your skin. Other scrubs, such as those made with Dead Sea Salt are more abrasive and more suited for use below the neck line. Other advantages of the Coffee Cocoa Face and Body Scrub include:

  • It is made with real coffee grounds, which contain caffeine and numerous age-fighting antioxidants. The caffeine from the coffee grounds has been shown to help reduce the appearance of cellulite by helping to temporarily stimulate circulation within your skin, just like ingesting a caffeinated beverage does to the circulation throughout your body.
  • It is made with Certified Organic cocoa butter, which also contains caffeine and numerous antioxidants. Antioxidants play a key role in counteracting the free radicals that can build up in your skin if you spend too much time out in the sun.
  • It is made with the patented Coffeeberry® for additional anti-aging benefits.
  • It will help deep-cleanse your pores and slough off dead skin cells so you can achieve silky smooth skin and a nice, even tan during that outdoor service, instead of burning and peeling.
  • The caffeine from the coffee grounds and cocoa butter will help keep you energized for the reception afterwards and all that dancing, just like drinking coffee or eating a chocolate bar would.manicure bowl

leafBath scrubs are also great for polishing your cuticles during home manicures. If you’re interested in trying a coffee cocoa bath scrub  or any of our Dead Sea Salt Scrubs for this purpose, we recommend you use this new, ergonomic manicure bowl, which fits the contours of your hand for easy application.

When it comes to getting your skin in prime condition for a June wedding, you really can’t go wrong with a Coffee Cocoa Face & Body Scrub.

Choosing a wholesale partner (for skin care professionals)

How to partner with spa and bath companies to offer at-home skin care solutions to your clients

If you’re a dermatologist, aesthetician, or other skin care and beauty professional, you likely know that your business depends not only on the quality of your services but also the quality of the products you recommend to your clients, patients, and customers. In many cases, your personal brand and reputation within the beauty industry can become linked to the brand and reputation of the company responsible for producing the products you use during your services and to your customers for at-home care. As such, it’s vital that you make the right choice when selecting a company to partner with.

Selecting the wrong beauty supply company to partner with can have dire consequences for your business. If the products you offer to your customers for at-home care don’t live up to their claims, your customers may conclude that you don’t know what you’re talking about, and your brand will lose credibility. Worse yet, if the company you partner with is discovered to be using less than ethical business and advertising practices (such as using carcinogenic ingredients in their products,) your customers may start viewing you as guilty by association.

So what do you do? Some beauty and skin care professionals choose to make and sell their own spa and beauty products, thereby eliminating the “middle man.” But if product formulation isn’t your specialty, you’re stuck with the original question: who’s products do you choose to offer to your customers, clients, patients, etc.?

Some tips for minimizing your risk when evaluating potential partner companies include:

Go organic. Products made with natural, organic, and wild-crafted ingredients are generally much less likely to contain potentially harmful substances than products made with synthetic ingredients and chemicals. Even if a product claims to be “natural” or “all-natural” it may still contain synthetic ingredients, chemicals, or artificial preservatives, as there is currently no industry standard on what constitutes a “natural” or “all-natural” product. Try looking for products and companies that use Certified Organic or wild-crafted ingredients instead. The term “organic” is heavily regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and thus, you can achieve a far greater level of certainty that the products you are using and offering do not contain potentially harmful substances if their ingredient lists use the term “organic.”

If you’re curious about the potential hazards of a particular ingredient or product, the Environmental Working Group’s SkinDeep Database can be a useful tool to use when conducting your research.

skin deep database bathsheba lotion

Look for reviews and testimonials. There’s no better way to gauge how well a product lives up to its claims than to see what people who have actually used it have to say about it. Look for reviews by customers and for testimonials from doctors, aestheticians, and other skin care professionals like yourself. Also look and see if the company in its entirety has achieved any certifications or verifications such as getting its product claims “doctor trusted.”

facial toner treyoursConsider price range. Don’t automatically go with the cheapest option available to you. Remember, the reason cheap products tend to be cheap is because they use synthetic and chemical-based ingredients that are inexpensive to manufacture. Chances are, if your clients, patients, and customers are wealthy enough to be able to afford your services then they’re wealthy enough to afford something better than your run-of-the-mill lotion for at-home use. If you cater primarily to the affluent then the price and the quality of the products you offer should also convey affluence. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that finding such high quality products has to cost you an arm and a leg. Just look for a company with a generous wholesale policy (and high quality products, of course.)

If your search for a wholesale partner happens to lead you to Castle Baths, please keep in mind that we offer a wide variety of anti-aging face creams, massage oils, essential oils, and body scrubs made with organic ingredients, as well as a variety of ways to partner with us.

Good luck on your search for the perfect spa and beauty supply partner for your business!

decorative soap - valentines roses

What do you want for Valentine’s Day? Chocolate? Roses? A spa day? Dinner at a nice restaurant? All of the above?

Don’t feel rushed if you haven’t given it much thought. After all, Christmas was only one month ago and February 14 probably still feels like the distant future, but it’s important to start thinking about what you might want so you can start dropping hints to your significant other.

one dozen chocolate rose soapsIf you’re into classic romantic gestures like receiving fresh delivered flowers or a box of chocolates we have the perfect gift idea for you to request this year: One Dozen Chocolate Rose Soaps.

This specialty item by Castle Baths combines three of your favorite Valentine’s Day treats (chocolate, roses, and a spa day) into one luxurious experience! These natural soap roses are made entirely from natural, organic and wild-crafted ingredients and hand-dipped in real cocoa to give you a long-lasting sweet scent and soft, smooth skin.

These soaps are scented in your choice of dark chocolate or vanilla musk with a hint of chocolate, and should retain their scents for months!

chocolate roses soap deliveredSold on a gift idea? Great! But this is supposed to be a gift for you from your significant other, so now comes the hard part: finding ways to drop hints of what you want without outright asking for them. Fortunately, we have a few suggestions here as well.

  1. Clip a picture of the roses to your refrigerator. Maybe even place the picture near or on the February 14 block on the calendar. Too obvious? Well, maybe… but it certainly gets the point across.
  2. Leave your computer’s web browser open to the Castle Baths website – perhaps even leave it on the roses page.
  3. Make some sort of random comment like, “I wonder if anyone has ever tried to make a chocolate rose? That would be a really great Valentine’s Day gift!”

We hope you enjoy your roses and that you have a happy Valentine’s Day!
